Krista is a Mi’kmaq woman from Qalipu First Nation (Mi’kma'ki Territory) and part of the Eagle clan. She completed her Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and is certified in trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. With over 20 years of experience, she has worked in a number of fields including Victim Services, Emergency Department, inpatient psychiatry, child and family therapy and Child Protection using a trauma-informed, client-centered approach. She is currently the Clinical Director at Victim Services of Durham Region and leads the Crisis Intervention and Human Trafficking programs. As a First Nations woman she is passionate about anti-oppressive practices that empower and support resilience in marginalized communities.
