Carol Barkwell has been Executive Director of Luke’s Place since December 2003. She is a founding member of the agency and served on its Board of Directors for three years.
She was also a founding member of the Custody and Access Coalition formed in 1997 and its steering committee which conducted extensive research and community work leading to the formation of Luke’s Place and other community initiatives.
Carol is currently a member of the Violence Prevention Coordinating Council Durham's Steering Committee, the Family Court Liaison and Resources Committee, and the DRIVEN Community Hub Executive Steering Committee in Durham and provincially the Learning Network Resource Group. She engages in advocacy and consultation for policy, program and law reform particularly as it relates to the intersection of violence against women and family law.
Carol has been working with abused women and their children for more than 35 years. She has extensive experience with program development and management for Luke’s Place as well as within her community action work. She is dedicated to service innovation, community collaboration and seamless service response.
